The Day of Reckoning
May 6, 2020One Greater than Elisha
May 6, 2020God gives Elisha supernatural power and he is able to tell the king of Israel the military plans of the king of Syria. The king of Syria foolishly thinks that he can capture Elisha. He sends troops to do this and when the servant of Elisha sees these troops surrounding the city, he is filled with fear. But Elisha says, “Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (6:16). Again and again, God tells His people in the Bible not to be afraid. That is His message to us today. Some time ago, I had open-heart surgery. All through the first agonizing night, I kept repeating God’s promise to me, “Fear not, for I am with you,” and that got me through the night.
We need not be afraid because we serve a sovereign God. Elisha prays that the eyes of the servant may be opened so that he will see the powerful forces of God surrounding them to protect them. May God open our eyes so that we may see, with the vision of faith, unseen spiritual realities.
Elisha prays that Benhadad’s army will be smitten with blindness. He then leads them into captivity and prays that their eyes may again be opened that they may see the dangerous situation they are now in. May the eyes of those who are not God’s people be opened to see their danger and flee to Christ.
